This activity is suitable for pupils in Years 9, 10 or 11.

Aim: ‘Arena Gig’ has been designed to enable students to acquire knowledge and understanding of the media industry. Students will develop the following:

  • team work
  • problem solving
  • creativity
  • time management skills

Background

  • A half-day event organised in the main hall or gym.
  • The Education Business Partnership is responsible for arranging BA’s to attend the session, and the school is responsible for preparing the students.
  • Students work in small groups of a maximum of 8 with a maximum of 120 students at any one event.
  • BA’s are assigned to groups and will act as facilitators.
  • The BA’s role is to guide the students through each activity and help them work effectively as individuals, in pairs and as a team.
  • BA’s are invited to attend a briefing session which will take place at the school before the activity is due to start.
  • The EBP staff will facilitate the day.

The activity

  • Students will consider why the government funds the Arts and how much revenue is generated as a result.
  • Taking the Metro Radio Arena as an example, students will work in teams to take on the role of an events management company.
  • They will select a band or artist to work for and subsequently plan a gig for them.

The groups will present their proposals to the rest of the year group and a panel of judges. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team
