Support for Science

What is it?

Durham Education Business Partnership support students following Applied Science courses. Science teachers are seeking opportunities to demonstrate to their students the applications of science in the workplace.

From a company viewpoint this usually involves a representative visiting a school(s) to talk to the students about how they use science in the workplace and/or giving a practical demonstration

.Kids at a science event

In recent years a number of schools have hosted events known as ‘Science of Our Lives’. Typically, this involves up to eight companies running short workshops in a lab demonstrating an aspect of their work. The students rotate round the workshops getting involved in interactive activities which demonstrate the uses of science.

We are aiming to enthuse students to continue studying science beyond 16 and also to encourage them to enter science based careers.

Who is it for?

This activity is suitable for students in Years 9, 10 and 11.

Aims

  • To raise awareness of the career opportunities available to students who study science.
  • To help employers to raise their profile and encourage young people to enter science based careers,

Duration

Up to one day.
